What Is the 9YF Square Baler?

9YF-2200 Square Baler — Mid-mounted Trailed Square Hay BalerThe 9YF-2200, 9YF-1900, and 9YF-1700 are mid-mounted, towed-type square balers purpose-built for collecting and compacting crop residues at high throughput. Operating across paddy fields and dry arable land alike, these square balers handle wheat straw, rice straw, cotton straw, corn straw, and a wide range of forage grasses with consistent density and tight rope knotting. Whether you run a mixed livestock operation in Yorkshire or manage contract baling across the East Midlands, these machines are designed to fit seamlessly into British harvesting schedules — cutting labour costs and storage complexity at the same time.

With picking widths spanning 1700 mm to 2200 mm and automatic rope baling as standard, the 9YF series meets the demands of both smaller family farms and large-scale UK agricultural contractors looking for a proven, high-density square baler with a strong serviceability record. The fork feeding mechanism minimises blockages during peak season, making it dependable during the critical “three autumns” harvest window when downtime is simply not an option.

How the 9YF Square Baler Works

As the baler is towed across a harvested field, the spring tooth picker rakes loose crop from windrows and directs it through the fork feeding mechanism into the compression chamber. The fork feeder’s positive, repetitive action reduces the chance of bridging or blockage — a common nuisance with older, auger-based designs — ensuring a steady, consistent flow of material even when working through wet or tangled straw.

Inside the 460 x 360 mm compression chamber, a reciprocating plunger compresses each charge of crop against the growing bale. When the bale reaches the pre-set length, the two D-type knotters activate simultaneously, looping and tying the rope automatically before the bale is ejected cleanly from the rear chute. The entire cycle repeats without operator input, freeing the tractor driver to focus entirely on ground coverage and field navigation.

Material choice in the frame and compression components is heavy-gauge structural steel, heat-treated at critical stress points. The result is a machine that maintains dimensional accuracy of the bale cross-section — critical for automated handling systems increasingly used by UK biomass and animal feed processors.

How farms and agri-businesses across the UK and beyond put the 9YF series to work

CASE STUDY
Lincolnshire Arable Contractor · UK · 2024

Square Baler Factory — Quality Control and TestingA Lincolnshire-based agricultural contracting business running over 4,000 acres of winter wheat and oil seed rape residues each season switched to the 9YF-2200 after struggling with knotter failures on an older European baler. The wider 2200 mm pick-up width allowed them to clear windrows in fewer passes, cutting fuel cost per bale by an estimated 12%. The dual D-type knotters have completed two full harvest seasons without a single mechanical stoppage attributed to the tying system. The firm now operates two 9YF-2200 units and supplies square bales to three regional biomass plants under contract, with bale dimensions meeting all buyer specification requirements without adjustment.

Result:
12% fuel saving per bale · Zero knotter stoppages over 2 seasons · 3 biomass supply contracts secured

“We run the 9YF-1900 across our Yorkshire dairy farm for straw baling every August. The auto-knotting saves us at least two hours of labour a day compared to what we were doing before, and the bales stack perfectly in our Dutch barn.”

Thomas Hargreaves
Dairy Farm Manager · North Yorkshire, UK

“Sourced three 9YF-1700 units for our cooperative members in Cambridgeshire. The machines arrived well-crated, parts availability has been straightforward, and the technical support from the supplier has been prompt. Would recommend for anyone needing a cost-effective square baler in the UK market.”

David Cartwright
Farm Machinery Cooperative · Cambridgeshire, UK

“We supply straw bales to three horse stud farms across Kent and Surrey. The 9YF-2200 gives us the throughput we need in a short harvest window. The density of bales is noticeably higher than our old machine — the studs specifically asked us to keep using it.”

Factory & Custom Engineering Capability

Our manufacturing facility operates across dedicated welding, machining, assembly, and quality-testing workshops, supported by CNC fabrication lines that maintain tight tolerance on all structural and drive components. The square baler product line benefits from in-house knotter assembly and calibration stations — the knotter being the component most closely scrutinised by buyers who have had bad experiences with lesser machines. Each unit is run through a full functional test cycle before dispatch.

Beyond standard models, we offer genuine product customisation capability that goes well beyond cosmetic changes. UK and European buyers have requested and received: modified pick-up rotor tooth patterns for specific crop types, alternative PTO shaft configurations, custom compression chamber lengths for non-standard bale size requirements, and OEM badging for machinery dealers. If your operation has a specification the standard 9YF series does not immediately address, our engineering team can work with you on a bespoke solution — minimum order requirements apply and vary by modification complexity. Contact us early in your procurement process to discuss lead times, since custom configurations have longer production schedules than stock units.

Häufig gestellte Fragen

Answers to the questions UK buyers most commonly ask before purchasing a square baler

What is the price of a square baler for UK farms and how do I get a quote from a supplier? +
Pricing for the 9YF square baler series varies based on model (1700, 1900, or 2200 mm picking width) and any customisation requirements. Because export shipping costs, import duties, and optional features all affect the final landed cost for UK buyers, we provide tailored quotations rather than a single list price. The most efficient route to an accurate figure is to email [email protected] with your preferred model, quantity, and delivery port. Responses are typically issued within one working day.
Which square baler model is best suited to UK wheat and barley straw harvesting conditions? +
For typical UK arable farms with fields wide enough to form broad windrows after combining, the 9YF-2200 offers the most efficient pickup due to its 2200 mm working width — fewer passes per field means lower fuel cost per bale. For smaller or more irregular fields in areas like the Welsh Borders or Devon where headlands are tighter, the 9YF-1700 or 9YF-1900 may be more manoeuvrable. All three handle wheat and barley straw equally well in terms of knotter performance and bale density.
How does the 9YF-2200 square baler’s automatic rope knotting system work and how reliable is it for continuous seasonal use? +
The system uses two D-type knotters that activate simultaneously each time a bale reaches its programmed length. Each knotter loops the rope, ties a bill-hook knot, cuts the rope, and feeds the loose end back into the knotting arm for the next cycle — all without manual input from the operator. The D-type design has been favoured in commercial baling for its consistent loop tension and resistance to failure on damp or coarse straw. Under normal seasonal workloads, the knotters require periodic lubrication and occasional needle timing checks but do not need rebuilding between seasons.
Where can I find a square baler supplier in the UK that offers after-sales technical support and spare parts availability? +
We supply the 9YF series directly to UK buyers through our international export operation, with spare parts dispatched from our factory. Common wear parts — spring teeth, knotter needles, rope guides, plunger seals — are stocked and can typically reach UK ports within 7 to 14 working days by air freight. We also provide technical manuals and video support for routine maintenance tasks. For buyers requiring local UK dealer support, we can discuss whether a regional distributor arrangement is appropriate for larger fleet purchases.
What minimum tractor horsepower do I need to run the 9YF-1700 square baler on my UK farm? +
The 9YF-1700 requires a minimum of 29.5 kW (approximately 40 hp) at the PTO, making it compatible with a wide range of compact and mid-range tractors commonly found on UK smallholdings and smaller arable farms. The upper end of the matching power range is 73.5 kW (around 100 hp), so there is considerable headroom if you are operating a larger tractor. For heavy crop conditions or sustained high-speed work, running near the upper end of the power band will give the most consistent bale density and reduce the risk of slugging through thick windrows.
Can the 9YF square baler be customised with a non-standard bale chamber size or alternative PTO configuration for specialist UK agricultural use? +
Yes. Our manufacturing facility supports genuine engineering customisation, including modified bale chamber dimensions, alternative pick-up rotor configurations, and non-standard PTO shaft arrangements. These changes are agreed during the order process and are subject to minimum order quantities and extended lead times. Buyers in the UK who need bales to meet a specific buyer specification — such as a biomass plant with defined bale dimensions for their automated handling equipment — should contact us with their full technical brief as early as possible so engineering assessment can be completed before order placement.
